About Blaze Pizza
Blaze Pizza stands as a revolutionary force in the fast-casual dining landscape, transforming how Americans experience pizza through an innovative build-your-own model that has captivated diners across the nation.[1][2] Located at 1800 S Harbor Blvd #102 in Anaheim, California, this hip counter-serve pizzeria represents the cutting edge of modern pizza culture, where crispy, thin-crust pies are crafted with creative toppings and sauces tailored to individual preferences. Founded in 2011 by Elise and Rick Wetzel—the entrepreneurial duo behind the successful Wetzel’s Pretzels chain—Blaze Pizza emerged from a simple yet powerful insight: the absence of quality, quick pizza options in their hometown of Pasadena.[2][5] What began as a sketch on a napkin during a business meeting has evolved into a nationally recognized brand with a devoted following and a business model that fundamentally reimagined the pizza industry.
The genesis of Blaze Pizza reflects the Wetzels’ keen understanding of market opportunity and consumer desire. When they found themselves unable to locate a satisfactory pizza restaurant in Pasadena in 2011, they instead visited Chipotle, where an epiphany struck: why couldn’t the same customizable, assembly-line approach work for pizza?[2][5] This question became the foundation for their entrepreneurial venture. The first two Blaze Pizza locations opened simultaneously in Southern California in 2012—one in Irvine and one in Pasadena—a deliberate strategy that Rick Wetzel described as getting “two at-bats” at perfecting the concept in different real estate environments.[2] This dual-opening approach demonstrated the founders’ commitment to testing and refining their business model before scaling nationally.
What distinguishes Blaze Pizza from traditional pizzerias is its sophisticated operational infrastructure and commitment to quality. Each restaurant features an interactive open-kitchen format where guests can customize signature pizzas or create entirely original combinations from a carefully curated selection of fresh, high-quality ingredients.[3] The centerpiece of every Blaze location is a blazing hot open-flame oven—a $33,000 piece of equipment capable of reaching temperatures exceeding 900 degrees—where dedicated pizzasmiths fast-fire personal pizzas to completion in approximately three minutes.[3][5] The dough itself is made fresh from scratch using a proprietary recipe requiring a 24-hour fermentation period, resulting in the chain’s signature light-as-air, crisp crust that has become synonymous with the brand.[3]
The Anaheim location at 1800 S Harbor Blvd #102 exemplifies this commitment to excellence while serving the vibrant Orange County community. Customers can reach the restaurant at +1 714-855-3136 to place orders or inquire about menu options. Beyond traditional pizza offerings, Blaze Pizza accommodates diverse dietary preferences with gluten-free dough and vegan cheese options, ensuring that guests with specific nutritional needs can enjoy the full Blaze experience.[3] The menu extends beyond pizza to include freshly made salads, blood orange lemonade, and s’more pies, alongside beer and wine selections.[4]
Blaze Pizza’s rapid expansion from its 2012 inception to over 298 locations across the United States and international markets demonstrates the viability and appeal of its business model.[4] The company’s strategic decision to build franchising infrastructure from inception—unlike some competitors—positioned it perfectly to capitalize on the fast-casual dining boom.[2] By 2014, Blaze had become the first fast-casual pizza restaurant to achieve 50 opened units, with ambitious plans to expand further.[1] Today, the Anaheim location stands as part of a thriving national network, continuing the Wetzels’ original vision of delivering exceptional, customizable pizza experiences to communities across America.

My family stayed at the Hyatt House in Anaheim located directly above Blaze. We ordered online from our room, and by the time I went downstairs to the restaurant, I waited maybe 5 more minutes for my order to be ready. Staff was very friendly. Food is amazing! Will definitely keep coming back!

Our hotel was nearby and we didn’t feel like going to Downtown Disney or the Anaheim Gardenwalk for food after a long day. I always hear good things about Blaze Pizza and finally tried it - I am officially a fan. The crust is crispy yet soft, the olives and mushroom toppings were so tasty, and the cheese was yummy. It might be a must have whenever we are in the area. Also, a big kudos to the staff working at this location. There were only 3 people working yet everyone was so skilled at multi-tasking that even with the number of people, everything ran so efficiently and there wasn’t a long wait at all.

Blazing Pizza offered a solid experience. The food was good, and while the prices weren’t outstanding, they were reasonable. Service was fast, and the staff was friendly and attentive. The restaurant was clean, and everything seemed well-organized. Overall, I'm pretty happy with this place and would recommend it for a quick, satisfying meal.
